I was in court on 4/23/13 the young lady that was assistant DA that day was very unorganized. Reports that were supposed to be in peoples files were missing. She refused to answer questions for people, even when she told us that she would answer questions at 2:00 when lunch break was over she refused. When she could have been working on other cases she would go into the lawyers room and wasted time hunting them down to try their cases instead of moving on to other important matters. I understand lawyers time is important but I know when they are ready to be heard in court they can find the courtroom on their own accord. So much time was wasted while she tracked lawyers down to hear their cases it was ridiculous. My case only took 30 seconds to take care of. She could have take care of alot of court business in the time she wasted trying to find lawyers to hear their cases. This occurance happened more than once or twice. I do not know whose responsibility it is to have peoples driving records and ect. in their file, but this person failed the court miserably. I do do appreciate the work the court system does, but please be organized and understand people who are not lawyers have important matters to deal with in their lives. Having been to a courtroom before I must say this was the most unprofessional DA I have ever encountered. Also the judge did not take control of his court. It was like it was a teaching class for her. He kept his eyes on the computer the whole session and seemed very disinterested in the proceedings. Everyone was very stressed out and disappointed in todays court session.
In all my years I have never see a DA come out and address the courtroom like Mr. Lerner did. Thought it was outstanding. Really impressed. Also there was simply a far better atmosphere for one simple reason. People were actually nice. You don't get that often in court whether its District or Traffic. You don't come away from Burke County feeling anything of the sort. So overall Catawba County's court experience was easy and pleasant.
