Disappointed is an understatement. After a very unfortunate experience of our vehicle breaking down on a trip, I called several rental companies in the Hickory area for a car that would adequately support our needs. Avis/Budget offered the best price, but I should have known it was 'too good to be true.' While the lady who helped us was incredibly polite and seemed to understand our overwhelming situation, the detailed charges of our rental agreement were not addressed at all. I specifically asked about the return time of the vehicle and was casually explained that I could drop the car off any time on that final day, and if it happened to be after hours, I could leave the keys and and documentation in a drop box. NOTHING was mentioned that if the vehicle was brought back after 5 pm that I would be charged for an entire extra day, IN ADDITION to a late fee. While an $80 difference in my final bill is not the end of the world, if I make an effort to fully understand what my responsibilities as a car rental customer are, I would expect that full disclosure be offered when it comes to the additional costs and/or fees that I may incur - especially since I asked. After speaking with 'a manager' at this particular location, he advised that I should have been more specific with my questions and explicitly stated if additional fees would be charged if I happened to return the car after closing hours. The 'didn't ask, didn't tell' policy is shady and underhanded, but since I did ask about return times, and additional costs were not mentioned, it feels very dubious and unfair.

I'm normally an Enterprise renter, renting several times a year, however the deposit has went up so I tried Avis this time. I wasn't very pleased. Customer service was lacking, not personable at all. Didn't even walk out to the car with me or make sure previous damage to the vehicle was noted, which is kind of an uncomfortable feeling. The car was dirty, I had to stop and clean the windshield to be able to see good. I also used a discount code I found online which later discovered it wouldn't work and I'd be charged the normal price after I turn the car in which was irritating because the price was one of the reason I chose Avis over others. All around I'm not very satisfied with this experience. I'll probably return to Enterprise for future rentals.
Stay far away from this place!!!! They put fraudulent charges on my card. Bad place to do business.
You better make sure your card can pass their credit check or you're screwed. Girl at the counter was very snarky about it too. Laughing about it with the next customer as we were leaving. I guess she can only be nice to and break rules for people of her own color because they're the only ones who got cars and they didn't pass the credit check either. Don't go here if you're white because she won't help you or explain anything to you.
